    The Empathy & Accommodation Blueprint

A practical cheat sheet for understanding and supporting the ADHD brain you love.

    1The 4 Neurodivergent Priority Sparkplugs

    Interest-Driven Engine

ADHD brains engage through curiosity, novelty, and urgency — not importance. If it's interesting, focus locks in. If it's not, the brain resists. Work with the spark, not against it.

    Dopamine Deficit Economy

Motivation runs on immediate feedback and micro-rewards, not distant outcomes. Break tasks into tiny steps. Celebrate completion visibly. Make progress feel real right now.

    Cognitive Static

Working memory is like a radio between stations. External cues (notes, timers, visible objects) are not reminders of failure — they are accessibility tools. The fewer things held silently in the head, the more brainpower stays available.

    Emotional Signal Strength

Emotions arrive louder, faster, and without the standard volume dial. What looks like overreacting is often a genuinely overwhelming internal experience. Validate before problem-solving.

2Phrasings that Work: NT → ND

    Instead of...Try...
“Why do you always forget?”“Let's put a reminder somewhere visible together.”
“Just focus for five more minutes.”“Want to race the clock and see what we can finish?”
“You're not even listening.”“When you're ready, I'd love your take on this.”
“We talked about this yesterday.”“Quick refresh — here's where we landed last time.”
“Why can't you just do it now?”“What would make this task easier to start?”
“You're being too sensitive.”“That landed harder than I meant — can we reset?”

    34 Simple, Low-Cost Home Adaptations

    The Launch Pad

    Cost: ~$15–30

A dedicated “out the door” station by the exit: hooks for keys and bags, a tray for wallet and phone, a small whiteboard for today's top 3 must-dos. Everything visible. Nothing hidden in pockets or drawers.

    Visual Timer Zones

    Cost: ~$5–10 each

Cheap countdown timers in bathrooms and kitchens. ADHD time-blindness makes five minutes feel identical to twenty-five. A visible countdown anchors the brain in real time without nagging.

    The Body Double

    Cost: $0–20

A designated parallel-work space. Many ADHD brains focus better when another person is simply present and quietly working nearby — no coaching, no reminders, just co-regulation.

    The Reset Basket

    Cost: ~$5–10

One small bin per room for “I'll deal with this later” items. Instead of shame-spiraling over clutter, items get scooped into the basket. Once a week, sort one basket together. Progress over perfection.

“This blueprint is a starting point, not a rulebook. Every brain is different. Ask your person what works for them. Trial, adjust, repeat — together.”
